File Extension Id

Eight associations have been made to date, for files bearing the file extension .id. Three of the associations have been verified, the rest have not. The most common association seems to be with Lotus Notes' Domino Server, formerly known as Lotus Server. Domino can be used as a client/sever for messaging, or as an application server. In either case, the .id file is just what the extension suggests. It is an identification file for each individual Lotus Notes user registered on the server. The .id file contains the user's name and other personal information, the license number of his software, and security information such as password, security certificate, and keys. This file and its information are specific to the Domino Server and Lotus Notes, and are not useful in any other environment. The .id file cannot be opened externally, and experts advise that users should not attempt to do so. Trying to open the .id externally could cause data loss or corruption, thereby not allowing the owner of the information access to the server.

Testimonials

Regtask was able to clean up my computer and speed up the performance! I highly recommend it

Jo H.

My computer was always popping up with registry errors and I couldnt get rid of them. Regtask did the job for me and took less then 5 minutes to speed up my computer.

Samantha J.

I have to admit I'm no computer geek. When something goes wrong, I usually have to call someone to fix it and it costs me a lot of money. When my computer started to experience random freezes, I just used Regtask and now it works normally again.

David G.

My computer is 5 years old and runs extremely slow now. I was a bit sceptical about using Regtask, but just decided to give it a shot in the end and it worked out fantastically for me.

AOL's Instant Messenger (AIM) program uses the .id file extension for its Buddy icons. The extension is meaningless in terms of an individual format as these icons are simple images that can be opened as .gif, .jpg, .bmp,. etc. files. When an AIM user installs a new personal buddy icon or adds a new buddy to his list, the program copies the graphic into the correct folder and renames it with the .id extension. Occasionally these buddy icons become corrupted, or the folder becomes corrupted due to a buddy sending a bad icon. The main symptom of corrupted .id files is an AIM crash on the user's machine, as well as any other buddies he attempts to send a message to. If this happens, the solution it to either remove all buddy icons from their directory and install new ones, or rename the directory and AIM will create a new one.

More Info Regarding File Extension Id

AIM .id files can be opened with Internet Explorer or your favorite web browser. Simply right click the file, then choose "open with" and navigate to your browser. They can't be edited from the browser but this will at least let the user find out what it looks like. From there the user can right click the picture, choose "save image as", then give it a name with an extension like .gif, .jpg., or .bmp.

The .id file extension is also used in Microsoft Excel as part of its Microsoft Map feature. This little know feature allow Excel users to create basic maps using tabular data. The maps can be shared with other Excel users just as with any other file. All of the individual maps have several different files that are used together to create the specific map the user wishes to see. In addition to the .id file, there are also the .dat, .map, .tab, .gst, and .ind files. It may happen that if the specific country or region the user desires is missing on of these files, including the .id, the map will not load. It has also been reported that beginning with Excel 2000 the Europe and World cities maps were no longer supported. To make these maps available, users simply need to copy the data form an Office '97 installation into the proper folders.

The id. file extension has also been linked to a disk ID file, a 3-D graphic file, a Pegasus Mail File, an unknown file found on an Apple II computer, and a Game Code file. In all of these case, the association has not been verified and no other information is available.
